adventures in cake

Well this week I was the cricut cake helper. Boy was it a learning experience.

My son Kevin has the Cake machine (his xmas present) and has been playing with fondant for a couple months now.  He came home for a few days to make a cake for the firemans banquet and we both learning a lot more about cutting fontant.
a few things we learned......
A. We liked Duff's colored fondant the best, it was very workable and didn't dry out as fast.

B. We could not figure out how to use sugarveil :( but like the taste of it.
C. Bigger font is better.

D. THANK YOU Andy for MTC and boolean join - I have that feature down pat now!
E. When you have s fine lined image, cut it out weed it and leave it on the mat, then do a shadow layer and place it on top, lay your hand on it to warm the fondant and then let it harden or put it in the freezer for a few minutes to get a good fondant image - It was the helmet we did last. Too bad it wasn't first it might have helped and saved some frustration.

Happy Crafting!
